Privacy policy

The short version: NameKnot runs entirely in your browser. Whatever you type — parent names, a surname from a will, a name nobody else knows yet — stays on your device. We never receive it.

What is stored, and where

NameKnot has no accounts and no server-side storage of your inputs. The tools generate results by running JavaScript on your device; the network is not involved. You can watch this happen yourself: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use any tool — you will see no requests carrying what you typed.

Two kinds of convenience data are kept in your own browser's local storage, on your device only: the names you explicitly save to your list, and your last inputs so you can pick up where you left off. This data is namespaced per tool, never synced anywhere, and never leaves the browser. Pressing Start over on a tool clears its saved state along with the shareable URL. Clearing your browser's site data for nameknot.com removes everything we have ever written locally — we cannot and do not hold a copy.

What reaches our host

The site itself is delivered as static files from Cloudflare Workers. Like every web server, our host processes standard technical request data — IP address, time, and user agent — to deliver pages and to defend against abuse, according to Cloudflare's own data policies. That traffic log never contains the contents of your inputs, because your inputs are not part of any request. Page URLs contain tool paths; if you deliberately share a parameterised result link (?names=…), that URL — like any URL — is seen by whoever you send it to, and by the server it loads through. Parameterised result links are marked noindex so search engines do not index them.

Cookies and trackers

NameKnot uses Google Analytics (GA4) purely as a visit counter: when people arrive, which pages they open, on what kind of device, from roughly where. Advertising features are off. Analytics never sees what you type, because tool inputs are never part of any request — page URLs are reported without their query parameters, so even a deliberately shared result link (?saved=… or?names=…) is counted only by its page, never by its contents. To recognise a repeat visit, GA4 stores a single counting cookie; it carries no advertising features and no input data. Blocking analytics in your browser changes nothing about the tools: they run entirely on your device either way.

NameKnot is funded by advertising rather than subscriptions. When advertising is activated (subject to the ad network's approval), advertising partners — starting with Google AdSense — will set their own cookies or use device signals to serve and measure ads, under their policies: Google's Privacy & Terms and its advertising cookies page explain this in full. Consent prompts required by law (such as GDPR consent tools) will appear at that point, before any advertising cookie is set.

Selling data — there is none to sell

We do not sell, rent, or share personal data, because we do not collect it. There is no account to leak, no profile to build, and no email to market to. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated before — not after — the change takes effect.

Children

The baby name generator is a tool for adults choosing a name. NameKnot is not directed at children; the tools ask nothing of anyone regardless of age, and we run no advertising aimed at children. If you believe a child has sent us information through a channel we are not aware of, contact us and we will remove it.
